The Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has said the ministry is firmly focused on strengthening industry, deepening agribusiness development and improving the trade environment as the country prepares for the next phase of economic transformation in 2026.
She explained that this focus is being driven by deliberate engagement with industry players to address long-standing bottlenecks and foster a more supportive business environment.
“The ministry has prioritised consultations with manufacturers, exporters, traders, and agribusiness practitioners to better understand their challenges and to develop practical, policy-based solutions.”
“These engagements have informed key interventions aimed at boosting productivity and competitiveness,” she said.
Ms Ofosu-Adjare made these remarks at the ministry’s Christmas Carols Service today, where she also urged the staff to remain committed to the ministry’s mandate and sustain the momentum of reforms being rolled out.
Outcome
One of the key outcomes of the ministry’s engagement with industry, she said, was the review of the repatriation of export proceeds.
Through the ministry’s intervention, the mandatory repatriation period for export proceeds was extended from 60 days to 120 days, a move she said had eased pressure on exporters and improved cash flow for businesses.
The minister also highlighted policy development as a major pillar of the ministry’s work.
She disclosed that an agribusiness dialogue organised by the ministry during the year has resulted in the development of an agribusiness policy to guide the sector’s growth.
“A textile and garment policy draft has been completed, alongside a draft bill aimed at strengthening pharmaceutical manufacturing in the country.
“These are deliberate steps to position industry and agribusiness as key drivers of jobs, value addition, and sustainable economic growth,” she stated.
Commendation
Ms Ofosu-Adjare commended the staff for their professionalism, resilience and dedication, noting that the progress made so far was the result of teamwork and strong institutional support.
She acknowledged the contributions of the Deputy Minister, the Chief Director and management, describing them as instrumental in advancing the ministry’s agenda.
As part of activities marking the Carols Service, the minister also launched two new buses for staff.
She described the initiative as a modest yet practical expression of appreciation for their hard work and commitment.
Reflecting on the significance of Christmas, Ms Ofosu-Adjare encouraged the staff to embrace the values of hope, humility, service and renewal.
“These values align with the ministry’s responsibility to support enterprise and improve livelihoods.
I am confident that the ministry would build on current reforms in 2026, working closely with stakeholders to deliver tangible results,” she said.
The minister concluded by wishing the staff a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
