The Muppets are back and they’ve teamed up with Sabrina Carpenter for a very special show. Kermit the Frog and co have reunited for a night of music and comedy to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Muppet Show.
He’s joined by fan-favourites including Miss Piggy, Gonzo and Fozzie Bear, plus several famous human faces too. Popstar Carpenter appears alongside actor-comedians Maya Rudolph and Seth Rogen, the latter of whom also serves as executive producer.
The brand new instalment of The Muppet Show is available to watch now on Disney+, which new customers can join from £5.99 per month. A caveat here is that the £5.99 Standard with Ads includes some adverts, but Muppet fans can upgrade to the ad-free Standard or Premium plan for £9.99 or £14.99 respectively.
The special celebrates one of the world’s most beloved children’s shows, which originally ran from 1975 to 1981. Keeping in the tradition of their classic variety show, the iconic Muppet characters return to TV for the first time in more than four decades with new music and comedy sketches on stage at the original Muppet Theatre.
The official synopsis reads: “Kermit, Miss Piggy and the beloved Muppets ensemble are back with a brand-new special event. Music, comedy, and a whole lot of chaos are bound to ensue when The Muppets once again take the stage of the original Muppet Theatre with their very special guest, Sabrina Carpenter.”

Veteran Muppet performers Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel perform the majority of the iconic characters in the special. Goelz has performed with The Muppets for more than 50 years and was one of the performers on the original series.
He also originated the characters Gonzo and Dr Bunsen Honeydew. The Muppet Show revival comes ahead of a busy month of streaming, with the final episodes of Bridgerton season four landing on Netflix on February 27, followed by the return of Apple TV’s Godzilla series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters on February 27
The Muppet Show debuted with a 100% Rotten Tomato score and waves of praise from critics and general audiences alike. Fans flocked to social media when it dropped on Wednesday to share their reactions, with some saying ‘they nailed it’.
Writing on X, one fan said: “They nailed it. The Muppet Show feels like a warm hug from a friend you feared you may never see again. This is the rare bliss of getting exactly what you want and it being just as great as you hoped for.”
Another said: “It’s literally perfect, a sparkling gem in a really dark place. If we can expect more of this every week, Disney is dumb not to greenlight this thing.”
Others criticised a change in Kermit’s voice, saying: “The new Kermit voice sounds nothing like him.” Meanwhile, this fan said: “I just watched the new The Muppet Show special, and I can confidently say it’s time to play the music, it’s time to light the lights, and it’s time to raise the curtains, because The Muppets are so back. Please make more of this series.”
