The Telegraph has shared its picks of the 10 prettiest villages in the UK for a winter weekend break.

Introducing the list, it said: “Looking for a charming and atmospheric escape in the chilliest months of the year? Here are the cosiest honeypots to stay in.”

Sharing the 10 picks, Telegraph travel expert Sarah Baxter said: “I love going away in Britain in winter, ideally somewhere small, quiet and seasonally appropriate – the sort of village that might show up on a classic Christmas card.

“Weekend activities on offer should include trying to successfully light the log burner (or finding the nearest fire-warmed pub) and watching whatever weather is occurring outside, to decide if a walk – coastal, woodland, frosty, blowy – is in order.

“A winter village break can be both comforting and refreshing. And also cheap: low-season rates in cute honeypots are invariably a bargain compared to summer. So where to go? Here are a few ideas.”

Among those picked out was Ticehurst in East Sussex.

The Telegraph said: “Enticing Ticehurst sits within the High Weald National Landscape, all coaching inns, boutique shops, historic charm and winter potential.

“The village is right by Bewl Water, perfect for frosty, mist-hung walks and runs.

“Also close is Bedgebury National Pinetum, where, until 31 December, a light trail adds extra Christmas spirit to this world-leading conifer collection.”

Ticehurst is among the best places to live

Ticehurst has already received praise this year, having been picked out by Muddy Stilettos as one of the UK’s and Sussex’s best places to live.

It said the village is “steeped in history” with the coaching inns, cottages and townhouses to prove it.

It adds that Ticehurst has a “community vibe, indie shops and pub culture”.

According to Rightmove, house prices in Ticehurst have an overall average of £523,048 over the last year.

It added that the majority of properties sold in Ticehurst during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £680,938.

Meanwhile, semi-detached properties sold for an average of £367,500, with terraced properties fetching £494,000.

Things to do in Ticehurst in Sussex

Travel expert Sarah recommends heading to the “quirky” Bell Inn gastropub or grabbing mince pies at the Greedy Goat.

She adds that the Wild Iris, an ethical spa tucked into nearby woods, is perfect for a “New Year de-stress”.

Maynard’s Fruit Farm has previously been named one of the best places to eat outside in Britain, with the village’s Bell Inn having been crowned one of the UK’s best countryside holiday spots.

You can visit  Pashley Manor Gardens, 11 acres of family-owned space with “all the ingredients of the English Country Garden”.

If you want to venture a little beyond the village, it is just below Tunbridge Wells and Bewl Water, the largest stretch of open water in the South East.

Here you can partake in various water sports or take a trip on a canoe or boat.

Dale Hill Golf Club is less than a mile from the village, and just ten minutes away is Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest, which has play trails, cycling and walking routes, and a Go Ape.
