Firefighters tackled the blaze in the yard of a business on the Granby Industrial Estate which caused ‘a lot of smoke’.
Businesses in the immediate area were urged to keep their doors and windows shut.
Two fire engines were called to the Weymouth Scrap Company site on the corner of Cambridge Road and Albany Road.

A police van was also at the scene with three police officers directing traffic.
A spokesperson for Weymouth Fire Station said: “We are currently dealing with a skip fire at Granby Industrial Estate, Chickerell. This has caused a lot of smoke, so please keep doors/windows closed as a precaution if you’re in the immediate area.”
The fire service also confirmed that the cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “We received a report at 2.22pm of a fire in the area of Albany Road in Weymouth. Officers have attended to assist the fire service.”
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service provided an update on Friday.
A spokesperson said: “Two crews from Weymouth were called to Granby Industrial Estate, Chickerell, at 1:52pm yesterday, November 27.
“On arrival, firefighters found a skip containing magnesium swarf well alight which was extinguished using one main line and foam along with some road salt.
“Due to the type of materials involved in the fire, this was a complex fire to manage, and crews worked swiftly to bring the fire under control.
“Our stop came in at 5:29pm and further re-inspections took place at 8pm and again at 8am this morning to check for further ignition. The cause has not yet been determined.”
