It’s the end of an era.
Sabrina Carpenter bid her “Short n’ Sweet” beauty aesthetic adieu on Saturday at the Variety Hitmakers summit in Los Angeles, welcoming the next stage of her career with a minimal makeup look courtesy of artist Carolina Gonzalez.

Once cast with powder blue and lavender shadow, Carpenter’s eyes were bare on the Hitmakers stage, bolstered only by mascara and a subtle gold shimmer. The look resembled that of the no-makeup makeup trend, a natural technique that involves using products to accentuate the skin. Indeed, Carpenter and Gonzalez did go heavy on the blush (as they typically do); the rosy hue gliding across her cheeks under a field of freckles. For lips, she opted for a rose taupe hue. Carpenter and Gonzalez imagined a similar makeup aesthetic for the “Manchild” singer’s Variety cover. Here, her full, medium brown eyebrows jumped off the page next to her naked eyes.

Carpenter was also without her signature “Short n’ Sweet” blowout, the bountiful style that had fans constantly questioning whether all that blond was actually hers. Instead, the “Tears” singer worked with Evanie Frausto and Marin (@its__marin_ on Instagram) to create organic waves with less volume. Here, her ends were much more tamed, falling delicately over her neck above her vintage, spring 2003 Ralph Lauren patchwork gown.

During her speech, Carpenter spoke to the nascent artists in the room, urging them to trust their instincts in pursuit of their creative endeavors. “Write what speaks to you, write something that only you can write. Write the music you want to listen to yourself. Add the weird chord progression and key change, and call men stupid in as many ways as you can,” she said.
Elsewhere during the summit sponsored by TikTok, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Alex Warren — best known for his breakout hit, “Ordinary” — chatted with Addison Rae, who styled her muddy blond hair in a side part with soft waves thanks to the talented Clayton Hawkins.
