The winners of the EDP Business Awards 2025 were recently revealed, and a recycling centre in Rackheath, near Norwich, was recognised for its commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
PSH Environmental is a family-owned and operated recycling centre providing comprehensive waste recycling, skip hire and responsible disposal services.
It was named the winner of the Environmental & Sustainability Award at a ceremony at Norfolk Showground in November.
More than a skip hire service, the company’s vision is to deliver sustainable waste management that actively regenerates local ecosystems and benefits the community.
Central to its mission is the commitment to improve the environment for current and future generations, embedding innovation, education and biodiversity into its model.
A flagship example of this approach is the Clean Up to Green Up initiative, which supports the restoration of Foxley Wood in partnership with Norfolk Wildlife Trust.
PSH donates £1 from every skip hired directly to the project, which goes towards rewilding, habitat creation and school engagement programmes.
Certified as a carbon-neutral business, PSH continually invests in solar-powered plant equipment, low-emission vehicles and advanced material recovery technology. It recently achieved a UK first by operating an industrial solar-powered shredder.
The business maintains ISO 14001 accreditation, diverts more than 100pc of waste from landfill, and leads transparent reporting to keep clients and stakeholders informed.
The judges said: “Not only does PSH take many proactive measures to reduce emissions internally, such as an impressive solar array, the company also delivers a huge amount of benefit to its customers.”
PSH’s managing director Nigel Parker commented: “This year is a significant year to win this award, as its 40 years since we started!”
Director Daniel Parker said there is “lots more to do” for the business.
“We’ve changed significantly in the last five years. Lots of heavy investment, lots of new ideas coming through, especially from our teams, who always bring new ideas forward. What comes in the next five years, I don’t know, but we’ll be there to push it forward.”

The finalists
British Sugar
British Sugar processes around eight million tonnes of sugar beet grown across East Anglia and beyond every year.
Its circular economy model ensures there is almost zero waste from its process.
The judges said: “British Sugar clearly takes its emission reduction seriously, proven by its significant investment into new, low-emission agricultural equipment.”
Saxon Air
Saxon Air in Norwich specialises in private and business aviation services and has embedded green practices across its operations.
Key developments include utilisation of solar power and electric flight training using the Pipistrel Velis Electro.
The judges said this low-emission training “has the potential to have wide-reaching applications”.
Tidal Transit
Located near Fakenham, Tidal Transit operates a fleet of crew transfer vessels (CTVs) designed to service all stages of offshore wind projects.
It is also spearheading electrification initiatives including the diesel-to-electric retrofit project, e-Ginny.
