It’s not known when the school will reopen

A primary school in Gloucestershire has been forced to close due to an electrical fault.

In a message to parents and guardians on Facebook, Berkeley Primary School has confirmed it will be closed today (Tuesday, January 6) due to health and safety concerns, citing a lack of heating or electricity.

The school issued a statement stating that phone lines and internet access are currently down, which is why school officials are posting updates on Facebook.

Parents have been asked to collect their children at 1.20pm, after the pupils’ early lunch, but the school has asked that pupils are not picked up before then.

The school expects to provide an update on Wednesday morning (January 6).

In a post on Facebook, the school said: “Due to an electrical fault, we have had to make the decision to close the school today. This includes explorers after school.

“THIS DOES NOT AFFECT LITTLE JESTERS as they use a different power source. However if you have a younger sibling who you wish to collect from there when collecting other children, we will of course facilitate this.

“Decisions like this are not made lightly but for health and safety reasons, we cannot remain open without heating or electricity today. We have no phone lines or internet hence having to use social media and parent rep groups. If you know any parent not in a parent group online, please could you kindly pass this message on.

“We have made arrangements for early lunch so the children are able to eat, but ask that you can please make arrangements to collect your children at 1:20pm. Please do not collect before 1:20pm as logistically this will be difficult and safeguarding remains our priority. Thank you.

“If for any reason you are unable to do so, staff will be on hand so please do not panic.

“Once I know more regarding the situation, I will update you all regarding tomorrow. Hopefully this can be fixed this afternoon.

“What a start to the new year!

“Thank you all for your understanding.”
