A man smashed the windows and trashed the posh decorating shop Farrow & Ball in Hove – covering it in paint.

The paint shop was cordoned off as a man inside the store violently broke the glass and smeared luxury tint across the floors and counters.

Police dressed in riot gear entered the store to speak to the man, who was suspected to have been going through a mental health crisis.

He was then stretchered out of the shop covered in paint after throwing objects at Sussex police.

Onlookers watched the extremely expensive colours being flung around.

A Brighton resident, Lynne Moore told The Argus: ‘It’s really depressing that someone would do that it. It doesn’t make sense; I don’t understand it.

‘Imagine what it was like for the staff. It’s a nice shop.

    ‘It’s just unbelievable.’

Staff were unwilling to discuss the incident.

Workers have since measured up the windows for replacement panes of glass.

It is unclear when the store will reopen.

Sussex Police said: ‘We were called to a report of a man acting erratically and causing a disturbance in a shop in Western Road, Hove, on Wednesday (8 October) at about 3.25pm.

‘The man refused to comply and threw objects at the officers. He was eventually restrained safely and has been taken to hospital for medical treatment. No one was hurt in the incident.

‘The road was closed while officers dealt with the incident but has now re-opened.’
