Council tax, electricity, heating and firewood are included.

A rural estate in Scotland is currently looking to hire a couple to fill a role. The positions come with a private cottage and provide the opportunity to live and work in idyllic surroundings.

A family in East Fife set within 100 acres of grounds is seeking a live-in domestic couple to join their household. One of the successful applicants will act as a housekeeper, while the other will be the estate’s handyman and gardener.

The positions come with a salary of £60,000, depending on experience. Meanwhile, the couple will receive a two-bedroom home on the estate that includes council tax, electricity, heating, and firewood.

According to the job listing on Greycoat Lumleys, the family have two children, two dogs, and a flock of chickens. Therefore, those applying for the roles must love children and animals.

The housekeeper will be responsible for day-to-day housekeeping, including cleaning, dusting, bed changing, laundry, ironing, and hoovering. Other tasks include looking after antiques and furnishings and polishing and cleaning silverware and brassware.

It would be advantageous for the housekeeper to be a keen cook, as the owners will sometimes require help when they have guests staying. This will consist of helping to prepare food, laying the dining room table, and serving meals.

Additionally, the housekeeper will be required to do occasional school runs and babysitting, as well as taking children to activities and providing supervision. They will also provide occasional overnight babysitting and “proxy parenting” when both parents are away.

Meanwhile, the handyman and gardener will be responsible for the maintenance of the estate’s buildings, gardens, walled garden, woodlands, and grounds. They will be tasked with grass cutting, edging, path clearing, hedge cutting and tree pruning, weeding, tree management, driveway maintenance, and more.

Other responsibilities of the handyman and gardener include general maintenance and basic DIY across the estate, cleaning and looking after cars and garden machinery, and undertaking and arranging servicing and repairs. They will also carry out other building maintenance activities such as clearing gutters and simple plumbing.

Extra tasks include occasional driving duties to and from airport, station pickups, and restaurants. The successful applicant will also be expected to support security and the smooth day-to-day operation of the property.

Couples applying for the positions should be self-motivated and happy working together, be pet-friendly and at ease in a rural setting, and have a “good understanding of privacy and discretion”. They must also have excellent references and the right to work in the UK.

The job listing states: “Greycoat Lumleys are seeking a couple for a warm, informal family home with 100 acres based in beautiful rural East Fife is looking for a hands on, flexible, and proactive domestic couple to live in to join their household.

“The current couple have been employed for the last 12 years and are retiring, they have very much been part of the family. Therefore, an excellent opportunity for a new team to take over the care and management of this special property.”

It adds: “This is a special opportunity to join a thoughtful and well-supported household where your contribution will be genuinely appreciated. The right couple will enjoy the peace and beauty of East Fife while helping to maintain a home with care, skill, and quiet pride.”

The role is available for an immediate start as soon as the right candidates are found. More information can be found on the Greycoat Lumleys website.
