Lancashire-based J2 Flooring, which specialises in luxury vinyl tiles, has swooped for a Northumberland-based business, marking a significant milestone in its long-term growth plans.

The business has acquired VAR Technology Ltd, which specialises in the precision cutting and customisation of LVT products.

As part of the acquisition agreement, Shaun Baston, the founder of VAR Technology Ltd, has joined the J2 Flooring board as a director and shareholder.

Stephen Latham, managing director of J2 Flooring Ltd, said: “This is more than a commercial acquisition — it’s a strategic alliance that aligns perfectly with our vision for the future.

“By integrating VAR’s exceptional technical capabilities and creative talent into the J2 business, we are enhancing our ability to innovate quickly, respond dynamically to market trends, and control every aspect of the production process from concept through to completion. This will enable us to offer our customers even more design flexibility, faster lead times, and the consistent product quality they expect from a premium supplier.”

VAR Technology Ltd has the ability to cut LVT into intricate shapes, patterns, and layouts — including geometric tiles, parquet effects, and bespoke designs.

Shaun Baston added: “Joining forces with J2 Flooring opens the door to a new era of design and production possibilities.

“This move empowers us to take our technical innovations to a broader market and to collaborate closely with J2’s talented team to bring fresh, original flooring concepts to life. Our shared goal is to push the boundaries of what’s possible with LVT — both in terms of visual impact and product performance.”

The acquisition also supports J2 Flooring’s wider mission to invest in the UK manufacturing base, reduce reliance on extended global supply chains, and ensure tighter quality control throughout its operations.

Latham said: “We see this as a transformational step — one that will not only strengthen our position in the UK flooring market but also allow us to compete more effectively on a global scale. We’re excited about the future and the unique value this partnership will create for our customers, suppliers, and partners.”
