Snow and ice has hit parts of the UK and Britain is bracing for Storm Goretti to bring more heavy snow and rain, as well as temperatures plummeting to -12C.

And as chilling conditions prevail and are expected to get worse, schools face closures and staff work from home. But that means they will be using their heating during the most energy intensive time of the year.

So, there’s no better time to find hacks to keep your home warm – without spending a fortune.

Luckily an expert from energy provider British Gas has shared their tip. They suggest using your oven in a tactical way to warm your home.

Smart energy engineer Jessica Rawstron suggested to keep your oven door open after you have finished cooking a meal.

The expert says rather than keeping your oven on, you should leave the oven’s door open once the food has finished cooking and the oven has turned off.

The remaining heat dissipates into the rest of the room, warming it up.

Jessica said:  “Once dinner comes out of the oven, we all close the door again. But why waste that heat? Leave the oven door open and let the heat transfer slowly into your kitchen.”

“It’ll help keep your house warm while you eat. And, naturally, keep the kids and pets away from the door,” reports the Express.

She also suggests keeping your curtains closed; it will help keep warm air in during cold winter nights.
