The roof of a building at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park Funfair in South Tyneside, Tyne and Wear became ablaze on Boxing day (December 26).

This comes after the funfair, dating back to 1899, underwent a £1.2m investment just two years before.

While emergency services are tackling the flames of what has been described as a “large” fire, the A183 Sea Road is partially blocked in both directions.

Residents have been advised to “close your windows and doors” to keep the harmful smoke out of their homes.
