A complex scaffolding project is supporting the restoration of an iconic monument.

JR Scaffold has provided a free-standing scaffold around the Sir Walter Scott statue in George Square, Glasgow, as part of a multi-million-pound refurbishment.

The structure is enabling full conservation work on the monument, which rises roughly 25 metres and cannot be tied into the statue itself.

We previously reported on the restoration work around the Sir Walter Scott statue.

JR Scaffold was also awarded similar contracts for the Queen Victoria, Robert Burns and Prince Albert monuments earlier this year.

The design allows for cleaning, repair and reinstatement of damaged stonework, with some pieces weighing up to 500kg.

The scaffold was constructed using the Cuplok system and incorporates concrete precast blocks for additional stability.

Engineers inspected and signed off each section during the build, which was completed by a five-person team in just four weeks.

The company worked alongside Gallery Access Solutions to create detailed engineering plans.

John Jack, contracts director at JR Scaffold, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the completed structure we have built around the statue.

“It’s great to say JR Scaffold has played a small part in such a historic project.

“Being trusted to support the restoration of an iconic monument like Sir Walter Scott’s statue is something we are incredibly proud of.”
