The empty post office is located at 292 Goring Road in Worthing and will now be turned into a hot food takeaway and pizza shop.

The post office closed in March 2025 and is situated on the end of a parade of shops, including a fitness centre, café and pet store.

It is currently the only vacant unit in the parade.

The plans involve fitting an electric oven to an island in the centre of the main shop floor to provide a cooking area and seating for customers.

The proposal will create four new jobs.

Concerns were previously raised by residents that the takeaway would lead to an increase in litter, was unnecessary in an area that already contains many food outlets, and would create noise and cooking odours which would impact residential flats above.

However, Worthing Borough Council said a wide variety of shops and services were located nearby and the change of use would not result in an over-proliferation of takeaways in the area.

A sound insulation scheme and an exhaust system to dispose of cooking odours will also be required before the takeaway opens in order to mitigate the effects on residents.

The takeaway will also close at 11pm instead of the proposed 1am, in line with other nearby food outlets, to help prevent additional noise.
