Berkeley Primary School in Gloucestershire announced the closure on Tuesday, January 6, citing “health and safety concerns” resulting from a loss of heating or electricity.
In a social media message to parents and guardians, the school explained that phone lines and internet access were also down, prompting the use of social media for updates.
The school said: “Due to an electrical fault, we have had to make the decision to close the school today. ”
Children were asked to remain at school until 1.20pm, after an early lunch, with parents advised not to collect them before this time.
The closure also affected after-school care.
However, the school clarified that the nursery remained open: “THIS DOES NOT AFFECT LITTLE JESTERS as they use a different power source.
“However if you have a younger sibling who you wish to collect from there when collecting other children, we will of course facilitate this.”
