More than 100 homes could be built on the site of a former caravan and motorhome park in West Sussex.
Adur and Worthing Councils has agreed to sell the 14.3-acre (5.7 hectare) site to the north of Titnore Way, in Worthing, to a developer.
The sale is conditional on the developer securing planning permission for 130 properties, with 35 being affordable rental homes and 11 shared ownership.
Due to its previous use, the land has been designated as a brownfield site which can be developed.
Worthing Borough Council leader Sophie Cox said: “The former Caravan Club site has been designated for housing for many years, so I’m delighted that we are on our way to making that a reality.
“We desperately need more homes for our residents, in particular affordable homes, because so many local households do not have somewhere secure to live long-term.”
The rent of the affordable homes will be a maximum of 80% of the market value, while the shared ownership properties will be managed by a housing association.
The council said the money it will receive from the sale will reduce its borrowing costs.
