The Alex Café Bar & Brasserie hosted the Rotary Club of Felixstowe’s Kids Kitchen initiative which featured eight students from Felixstowe High School.

The students completed a four week course where they gained experience of working in a professional kitchen learning to prepare and serve up a variety of dishes.

Under the watchful eye of Alex staff, the young chefs learnt how to prepare a Christmas menu.

Across the four weeks they learnt to make; a chocolate and pecan torte, Yorkshire puddings, cranberry sauce, swede and carrot mash and freshly made stuffing and spinach and mushroom wellington, sprouts with chestnuts and bacon, and sticky red cabbage.

The dishes then formed the two course meal served up to parents, friends, VIP guests and Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Felixstowe on December 1.

Kids Kitchen is part of the Rotary Club’s youth development programme headed by Andrew Rowdon.

Mr Rowdon had been unable to attend this year’s event due to an operation.

All the students received a trophy recognising their hard work.

The Top Chef 2025 award went to Lucy Fenn for her skills in the kitchen and commitment to the course.

A rotary spokesman said: “Youth development is a key mission for the Rotary Club of Felixstowe. And like the other events in our programme, Kids Kitchen is all about giving young people opportunities to experience new environments, face challenges, and develop confidence.

“Thanks to all who have made this event possible. Particularly the Yeo Group, chefs Preston and Mathew, and all the staff at the Alex.”

The club thanked Mayor of Felixstowe, Counsellor Corrine Franklin, and Club President, Rotarian Nick Barber, for making the presentations.
