The Bear Inn, on Burwash High Street, suffered a chimney fire on December 5, with rescue services attending.
With the pub’s chimney deemed potentially unsafe, Burwash High Street was temporarily closed.
A statement issued on the pub’s Facebook account read: “Unfortunately, due to a large chimney fire here at the pub today, we will be closed until further notice.”

Following further inspection on December 6, a building inspector deemed the chimney “safer than originally thought,” the pub said.
As a result, the High Street was reopened on December 6. However, the pub remained closed.
But after another inspection, the pub has been cleared to reopen, and will do so at 6pm on December 11.
The pub announced the good news on Facebook, writing: “Fantastic news! Following the visit from the building inspectors, we have been given the all clear!
“We will reopen this evening (December 11) from 6pm. Please bare with us when we do open as we will still be working through a few issues.
“We would like to thank everybody for their well wishes and messages of support, sorry we were unable to respond to them all. Thanks also for your patience and understanding in what has been an extremely worrying time for us.
“We look forward to seeing you soon!”

Many of the pub’s customers had previously offered supportive comments.
Paul Redstone said: “We were in there yesterday lunchtime for a function with 45 people, but away from the end with the chimney fire.
“The staff were incredible, and we were still able to have our lunch.
“But our thoughts are not only with the business, but also those who live there, including children.
“Hopefully, the chimney can be made safe quickly and repairs done so that the pub and those who live there can have a good Christmas.”
A spokesperson for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 12.21pm on December 5 to a chimney fire at a commercial premises in Hight Street, Burwash.
“Two fire engines and an aerial ladder platform attended the scene. Crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. The incident was handed over to a structural engineer at 4.21pm.”
