Brighton and Hove City Council will raise the White Ribbon flag on Tuesday, November 25 to launch the 16 Days of Activism, which begins on the UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Councillor Sam Parrot, lead member for violence against women and girls, said: “It is important we all recognise that violence against women and girls is not a women’s issue; everyone must be part of the solution. Victim blaming must stop.
“We should all challenge this whenever we see it. Silence is compliance.”
The 16 Days of Activism is a global movement calling for action to end violence against women and girls (VAWG), and concludes on December 10, Human Rights Day.
The campaign highlights the scale of the issue, with an estimated two million women in the UK suffering violence by men each year.
Councillor Parrot said the city was committed to its VAWG strategy, which includes listening to people with lived experience and embedding trauma-informed approaches throughout the organisation.
A public event will take place at Jubilee Library on November 25 from 10am to 1pm, offering advice and support from local organisations.
