Saturday Kitchen ‘s Matt Tebbutt was forced to “move on” as the show was throw into chaos after a playful exchange.

The popular BBC cookery programme returned to our TV screens this morning (January 10) with a new live episode.

Matt welcomed chefs Adam Smith and Mandy Yin to the studio, alongside special guest Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas.

Olly Smith was also on hand to recommend wine pairings for the dishes prepared, whilst Strictly pro Vito Coppola showcased some of his culinary skills.

However things took an unexpected turn as chaos unfolded between Shirly and Matt with the TV chef insisting that bosses told him to “move on” with the show.

Matt whipped up a popular brunch dish, which included potato and onion fritters with feta cheese and he finished it off with some salmon and pouched eggs.

As he presented the dish to Shirley he slipped up on his words, saying: “I made this. There we’ve got pouched eggs and we’ve got those… what are they called?”

Everyone burst out laughing as Shirley joked: “Am I making you lose your concentration here.” Matt: jumped in: “Yes you are.” He continued describing the dish: “What else, there is a bit of sour cream, a bit of salmon. I think that is it.”

Shiley was impressed as she replied: “I mean, it is like a full course meal isn’t it?” Taking a bite she revealed: “umm. I like that, I like your cooking. I’ve always liked your cooking.”

Matt turned to the star and said: “Good. I like your dancing” The studio erupted in laughter as Shirley asked: “You wouldn’t be chatting me up are you?”

Matt joked: “Um it’s getting steamy in here. Let’s hang around here for a moment.” As everyone burst out laughing, bosses were keen to continue on with the show as Matt jumped in: “I’m being told to move on.”

It comes just hours before the show aired, Matt announced an unexpected scheduling shake-up. The show, which typically airing at 10am, began 15 minutes earlier at 9:45am.

At the time, the 51 year old presenter broke the news via his social media channels. Posting to Instagram, he shared a snap with co-presenter Olly Smith, showing the pair beaming as they enjoyed a meal together.

Text overlaying the image stated: “Back to school tomorrow…earlier time 9:45am… Be there!” His caption read: “@Saturdaykitchen See you at 9:45am!”
