A bath, a toilet, cabinets and building rubble had been dumped on the remote moorland road.

The shocking incident was reported to Bradford Council’s cleansing team by Cllr Ros Brown (Ilkley Ward, Green Party).

Cllr Brown said: “This hazardous and reckless criminal activity is a blight on our beautiful natural environment. The perpetrators need to be caught and made to pay for the clear up otherwise we all end up paying for this. The mess contained old toilets, a bath and a vast amount of builders’ waste and house clearance items. This area has sheep roaming freely and is popular with dog walkers and cyclists which increases the dangers to animals and riders and can be costly for owners.

“I’m pleased to say that by early Friday morning Bradford Council’s cleansing team were at the site removing truckloads of the waste. I went up to say a massive thank you to the team for their speedy response. I have also followed up with the cleansing and enforcement teams to see what evidence can be used to take enforcement action on those responsible and prevent this from happening again.”

A Bradford Council spokesperson said: “We received a report earlier today and acted promptly to ensure the waste was removed by the council’s cleansing team. Evidence has been gathered and is now being actively investigated by our enforcement officers. Fly-tipping and other environmental crimes will not be tolerated, particularly when they harm our countryside. We will take robust enforcement action where offences are identified, helping to protect our rural environment and preserve clean, safe neighbourhoods for the community.”
