A new electric vehicle excise duty (eVED) will be levied on drivers of electric cars (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) from 2028, based on how far they drive in a given year. It’s intended to fill a big financial hole made by the fact that drivers of EVs don’t pay fuel duty. This tax is levied only on fossil fuels (petrol and diesel) and brings in around £25bn for the UK treasury.Fuel duty itself will also go up from September 2026.Other changes to the cost of electricity announced in the Budget will also come into effect, which should offset the increased…
A skip hire company has been ordered to pay fines of £18,000 for operating a waste site without the necessary permissions.Action Skip Hire Limited of Trent Street, Digbeth, was also ordered to pay court costs of more than £28,000 after it was found guilty of two offences and admitted a third.The Environment Agency, which brought the prosecution, said the company had been using land off Oxford Street in Birmingham to illegally store and process waste.On top of the fines, Birmingham Magistrates Court ordered the company to clear the site of waste by 7 October. From Monday, November 24, East Sussex County Council will require residents to book in advance before visiting any of its 10 household waste recycling sites. The scheme aims to reduce misuse by commercial operators and out-of-county visitors, and is expected to save taxpayers £50,000 a year.
