Atina Kitchen, in Foregate Street, was known for its inventive small plates and was a favourite brunch spot for many in the city.
Sadly though, the business announced on Monday, December 29, that mounting challenges had meant that it would be closing its doors for the final time.
A statement on the restaurant’s Facebook page, written by owner Jake Potter, said: “I’m going to keep this fairly brief.
“Although this is hard to put into words, it’s helped by thinking about the incredible people I’ve worked alongside, amazing customers, great suppliers, producers and makers who have supported us and what we do.
“But, all things must come to an end.
“Atina Kitchen has closed.
“I cannot begin to thank the team for all of their support and dedication,
“We’ve done so much over the 20 years.
“The business has changed so much, the world has changed so much.
“But 20 years, it’s quite an achievement.
“Something we can all be proud of and I thank every person that’s contributed to the business over the years.
“Hospitality is tough, now more than ever.
“It takes huge amounts of personal sacrifice, especially for independents.
“I wish nothing but the best for all our friends in the industry.
“I hope you find your way to thrive and be successful.
“For now though, a huge thanks to the team past and present.
“Love, Jake.”
The post has received dozens of comments, with many expressing their shock, sadness and disappointment that the business will be no more.
Atina Kitchen has stated that it will be in contact with anyone with future bookings or gift vouchers over the coming days.
