A not-for-profit organisation is inviting local artists to transform Brighton’s city centre.

Brilliant Brighton Business Improvement District (BID), a coalition of more than 500 city centre businesses, encourages local artists to apply to take part in its “Dressing the City” summer campaign.

With banners gracing the city’s centre streets every summer, the campaign aims to spread vibrant colours and a sense of welcome to both locals and tourists.

The winning designs for the 2026 campaign will be tailored around the theme “We Love Brighton”.

Artists are encouraged to suggest pieces that reflect Brighton’s special attributes, including its creativity, history, seaside charm and fantastic array of city centre shops, restaurants, cafes and more.

Once chosen, the winning artwork will become large-scale banners and will feature in various city centre locations, notably Western Road and North Street.

These banners will be put up in May 2026 to coincide with the Brighton Festival and will be displayed throughout the summer, serving as a colourful testament to Brighton’s unique charm.

The commissioned artist will receive a £1,000 fee, along with significant exposure as thousands of people experience the display each day.

Further details about the application process are available via the Brilliant Brighton website at brilliantbrighton.com.

The “Dressing The City” campaign is not limited to banners.

It also promises to brighten North Laine and The Lanes with bunting and adds a touch of natural beauty with hanging baskets.

Brilliant Brighton is a non-profit organisation comprising 517 retail, leisure and hospitality businesses in Brighton and Hove’s city centre.
