Sabrina Carpenter has come under fire for her performance at the Grammy Awards, where she sang and danced to her hit Manchild in an aviation-themed performance
Sabrina Carpenter has come under fire for her performance at the Grammys. Despite not winning any awards last night, the popstar was front and centre of the glittering ceremony.
Taking to the stage, Sabrina wowed with a performance of her hit Manchild, which was aviation themed and saw Sabrina sing and dance her way through a makeshift airport set as she performed the hit song.
However, her behaviour towards the end of the track was slammed by animal rights organisation PETA. She was seen holding a white dove, after pulling it out of a suitcase prop, as she closed her performance.
Taking to social media, PETA wrote: “Hey Sabrina, bringing a live bird onto the Grammys stage is stupid, slow, useless … and cruel! Bright lights, loud noise, and handling cause fear and distress for a bird who belongs flying free in the open sky.”
The message underneath then added: “Did [Sabrina Carpenter]really just bring a bird on stage in 2026?! The Manchild singer is giving childlike behaviour. Leave animals out of the #grammys!”
Lady Gaga also came under fire from the organisation for wearing feathers in her outfit as she performed her hit Abracadabra.
“Whether they’re plucked out while the bird is alive, or after they are killed, the bird always suffers. Lady Gaga, let birds keep their feathers. Feathers belong on birds and birds should be free,” they wrote.
Cher, meanwhile, got a shout out after winning the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, where she was praised for her work fighting for animal rights and a tribute for Billie Eilish after her win in the Song of the Year category.
The post read: “A Lifetime Achievement Award at the #grammys feels right for @Cher … From working to help captive elephants to dogs suffering in the cold. Thank you for using your platform to change the lives of animals.”
The other added: “Congrats to @BillieEilish on #grammys Song of the Year for Wildflower. From powerful music to powerful compassion, our 2021 Person of the Year continues to lead with vegan values, fur-free fashion, and respect for animals.”
Fans have heaped praise on Sabrina for her performance, and said she was snubbed by bosses as she didn’t get to take any awards home. One fan wrote: “I hope Sabrina knows how powerful and amazing of a year in music she’s had. the beauty of man’s best friend was so snubbed tonight and honey, we see it and are mad as hell. Sabrina should’ve went home with at least one grammy tonight after how she was being used to promo the show.”
“The grammys did Sabrina so dirty like what do you mean this album didn’t win ANYTHING,” another added, with a third writing: “Sabrina was completely robbed. i can’t believe they kept showing her when she lost #GRAMMYs.”
