Construction management consultancy Cube has partnered with built environment specialist Peter Dawber to expand its building safety, compliance and construction competency services.

Cube founders and construction experts Nicola Slater and Mark Johnston have joined forces with Dawber to provide clients with specialist advice on building safety regulation, competency development and compliance with the Building Safety Act.

Dawber, a former senior academic and dean at Nottingham Trent University, retired in 2017 and now works as an independent consultant across the built environment. He has played a key role in shaping industry competence frameworks since the Grenfell Tower fire and currently sits on the Industry Competence Committee, which advises the Building Safety Regulator.

The partnership will enable the trio to deliver project gap analysis, implement practical process improvements, provide Building Safety Act training, and offer specialist regulatory advice to construction sector clients.

Mark Johnston, co-founder and construction consultant at Cube, said: “We have been working with Peter for several years, most recently on the SLG 9 Industry Competence Steering Group around construction management delivery. It is a great opportunity to create alliances and associations with someone of Pete’s expertise, who is a well-known and respected name in the industry. He is keen to hear the voice of industry and feed that into the regulatory frameworks to make positive change.”

Dawber added: “I’m very pleased to be working in a more formal capacity with Cube. Having worked on a range of initiatives in recent years we’ve developed a healthy, trustful and mutual respect both individually and corporately. Although I enjoy my solo work, it is ineffective if not informed by the experiences, challenges and best practice from those engaged at the coal face. Working more closely with Cube and the organisations they engage with will underpin my knowledge and allow me to better support the industry.”

Nicola Slater, co-founder and construction consultant at Cube, said: “We’re already collaborating and sharing ideas on the challenges around industry competence and working on providing training on the Building Safety Act to those in designer and contractor roles. We’re excited to welcome Peter to the extended team and look forward to how we can collectively make a positive difference in the construction industry.”
