Saturday Kitchen’s Matt Tebbutt was forced to move on by producers after a playful exchange with Strictly star
Saturday Kitchen host Matt Tebbutt was forced to “move on” after the show descended into chaos following a playful moment on air.
The beloved BBC cookery show returned this morning (January 10) with a fresh live instalment. Matt was joined in the studio by chefs Adam Smith and Mandy Yin, plus special guest Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas.
Olly Smith was present to suggest wine pairings for the prepared dishes, whilst Strictly professional Vito Coppola demonstrated some of his cooking prowess.
However, thins took an unforeseen twist as Shirley and Matt has a playful exchange, with the TV chef revealing that producers instructed him to “move on” with the programme, reports the Express.
Matt rustled up a favourite brunch offering, featuring potato and onion fritters with feta cheese, topped off with salmon and poached eggs.
As he unveiled the dish to Shirley, he stumbled over his words, asking: “I made this. There we’ve got pouched eggs and we’ve got those… what are they called?”.
The studio erupted with laughter as Shirley teased: “Am I making you lose your concentration here.” Matt quickly responded: “Yes you are.” He went on describing the creation: “What else, there is a bit of sour cream, a bit of salmon. I think that is it.”
Shirley appeared delighted, commenting: “I mean, it is like a full course meal isn’t it?” After sampling a mouthful, she confessed: “umm. I like that, I like your cooking. I’ve always liked your cooking.”
Matt cheekily said to the star: “Good. I like your dancing” The studio was filled with laughter as Shirley retorted: “You wouldn’t be chatting me up are you?”.

In a playful tone, Matt quipped: “Um it’s getting steamy in here. Let’s hang around here for a moment.” Amidst the laughter, the show’s producers were eager to keep things moving, prompting Matt to say: “I’m being told to move on.”
This amusing exchange occurred just hours before an unexpected change in the show’s schedule was announced by Matt. The programme, which usually airs at 10am, started 15 minutes earlier at 9:45am.
The 51 year old presenter shared this news via his social media platforms. On Instagram, he posted a photo of himself and co-presenter Olly Smith, both grinning widely while enjoying a meal together.
The image was overlaid with the text: “Back to school tomorrow…earlier time 9:45am… Be there!” His caption read: “@Saturdaykitchen See you at 9:45am!”.
