Charlie Manby has gone back to work as a bricklayer just days after winning a huge amount of money at the World Darts Championship. The youngster from Huddersfield was one of the surprise packages of the tournament, reaching the fourth round. He defeated Cameron Menzies in his opening match, a result which was overshadowed by the Scot repeatedly punching his table after the winning dart.

Manby also earned victories over Adam Sevada and Ricky Evans before he was finally beaten by eventual runner-up Gian van Veen. He scooped a whopping £60,000 for winning three matches at Alexandra Palace, helping him climb to 81st in the Order of Merit. However, the humble 20-year-old has gone straight back to the building site to resume his day job.

He works as a freelance bricklayer, which he describes as a job he ‘enjoys’ and something he can always fall back on if darts no longer pays the bills.

Manby told ITV News: “It was a bit surreal to start with, then game by game I felt a lot more comfortable. I was very nervous at the start but I got used to it.

“It was a great feeling and the crowd were always on my side which is always a good thing. There was 4,000 people shouting my name. It’s a great feeling.

“For the past three years I have been doing this job. It has been my main income and I actually enjoy it. It’s a good laugh on the site and you are getting a good week’s wage at the end of it as well.

“You’ve always got something to fall back on if the darts doesn’t go your way.”

Asked what he is planning to spend his winnings on, Manby replied: “Not quite. Maybe when it hits the bank I will have a think. I need a new car, so probably look at one of them and maybe a watch.”

Manby’s boss on the building site, Sam Booth, added: “He’s just a character. He’s that guy who brings a smile to everybody’s face.

“When things might be getting a bit tough, he will be there making everybody laugh. That is what he is like. Just a good all-round guy.”

Asked if Manby is better at bricklaying than he is at darts, Booth responded: “Good question. I’d say throwing darts. He’s still got some work to do.”

Manby returned to darts for Q-School on Thursday with the aim of earning a PDC tour card for 2026. However, he was beaten by John Aldridge, who snatched the decisive leg to claim a 6-5 victory.
