A new study shows the top Christmas gift wish list for Brits this year – with air fryers taking the number one spot despite 59% already owning one
The air fryer has topped the Christmas wish list for Brits this year, outshining smart home security systems and VR headsets. A survey of 2,000 adults who celebrate Christmas revealed that Ninja air fryers are the most coveted gift, with 11% hoping to unwrap one on Christmas.
This is despite a whopping 59% of those surveyed already owning this popular gadget, and 68% confessing they can’t imagine life without it. The poll also spotlighted other hot-ticket items such as the Samsung Soundbar, Dyson Airwrap, and Amazon Fire TV Stick HD. Some are setting their sights on innovative kitchen gadgets like ice cream makers, dessert makers, and bread makers.
The study also uncovered a growing interest in smart technology, spanning from appliances and lighting to home security systems.
A spokesperson for Utilita, which has a Power Price List showing the cost to run household items, said: “The George Foreman grill and waffle maker swiftly gave way to the smoothie maker. Now it’s all about air fryers.
“People can see the pounds and pence savings with these little worktop wonders, compared to the much bigger oven which costs almost four times more to run, on average.”
The study also explored how these trends differ between generations, with the highest number of Gen Zs hoping for an Apple AirTag under the tree (13%). While 11% have asked for some kind of air purifier or clothes steamer.
Millennials are more interested than any other group in a Panasonic bread maker and Meta Quest 3.
Research has shown that younger people are considerably more swayed by trends than their older counterparts, with this influencing the purchasing decisions of 53% of Millennials and 57% of Gen Zs, in stark contrast to just 31% of the wider population.
The younger demographic are also embracing smart technology, with particular interest in smart watches (21%), appliances (17%), and lighting (14%).
However, they are also more likely to factor in energy efficiency when making technology purchases (25%) compared to Boomers and Gen X (17%), the OnePoll.com figures revealed.
Utilita’s spokesperson added: “The younger generations tend to have more of an eye on what’s culturally relevant, including in the world of technology. “
So, to predict the next biggest trends, we should be keeping an eye on their buying habits. “Will smart technology continue to be on the rise, will it be revolutionary beauty products, or something completely new we haven’t even imagined yet?”
