Counter-terrorism officers arrested three men and a woman in Brighton and Eastbourne on the morning of December 4.

Two of the people arrested remain in custody while two others have been released with no further action.

Two men aged 36 and 33, both from Eastbourne, remain in custody as enquiries continue, a spokesman said.

A 27-year-old woman from Hailsham and a 41-year-old man from Eastbourne have been released with no further action.

One of the men arrested in Eastbourne was taken out of an address after heavily armed counter-terror officers broke his door open.

Counter Terrorism Policing South East said the arrests formed part of a planned intelligence-led operation into “extreme right-wing terrorism”.

A spokesman for CTPSE said on Tuesday: “Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East are continuing an investigation after four people were arrested in Sussex on Thursday.

“Two of the people arrested – a 41-year-old man from Eastbourne and a 27-year-old woman from Hailsham – have this evening (December 9) been released with no further action.

“Two other men, aged 36 and 33, both from Eastbourne, who were arrested under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000, remain in custody as enquiries continue.”

Sussex Police Assistant Chief Constable Steve Rayland said: “I am aware that investigations of this nature can cause people in the local community to feel concerned, but I’d like to stress the arrests form part of a planned operation to keep people in our communities safe.

“Counter Terrorism Policing South East is leading this investigation with support from our officers in Sussex Police.

“People living in the local area may notice an increased police presence while search activity takes place, which is routine in cases of this nature.

“Please speak to a police officer if you have any concerns or any information which may be relevant.”
