A Highland construction company leader has been recognised for his work in the industry.

Thom Macleod, originally from Gairloch, received the Industry Excellence Award at the annual Highland Construction and Property Dinner for his role as managing director of Compass Building & Construction Services and Orbis Services Limited, which specialise in major new-build projects and affordable homes across the Highlands.

Mr Macleod joined Tulloch Construction after leaving school at 16-years-old, rising through the ranks to become a director. In 2009, he co-founded Compass Building which provides both new builds and affordable homes.

The father of two said he was “deeply honoured” to receive this award, adding: “It is recognition of the hard-working and dedicated team at Compass who continually deliver exceptional products and value for the people of the Highlands and Islands.

“I am proud of what we achieve in this area and in the way we do it, by training and developing our own workforce and putting people at the forefront of our goals.”

The organising committee said: “Thom’s contribution to the construction industry is widely recognised and we were delighted to acknowledge his achievements at this year’s dinner.”
