Several camping sites in Sussex have been honoured in the latest annual Campsites.co.uk Awards from family farms to scenic woodland lodges.

All within a 90-minute drive from south London, these campsites offer would-be glampers and campers the chance to escape to the countryside even during the colder winter months.

Here are all the campsites that made this year’s list:

    Hale Farm Campsite, East Sussex

Located in Chiddingly, East Sussex, Hale Farm was crowned Winner of Best Campsite in South East England.

The site occupies a working family farm and offers spacious non-allocated grass tent pitches, each with its own fire pit.

For glamping, it has luxury seven-metre bell tents and a shepherd’s hut, all furnished to provide comfort in a natural setting.

Visitors can meet farm animals such as donkeys, pygmy goats, sheep and free-range poultry during their stay.

The campsite operates seasonally: it is open between April and September offering a great family-friendly weekend away.

    Bluebell Coppice Park, East Sussex

Bluebell Coppice Park, located in a wooded valley near Battle in East Sussex, was the runner-up for Best Caravan Park in South East England.

It provides both grass and hardstanding touring pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, as well as glamping bell tents and woodland lodges with kitchenettes and bathrooms.

The park features its own private fishing lake and is surrounded by ancient woodland, offering a quiet and secluded place to spend the weekend from spring to autumn.

    Beech Estate Campsite, East Sussex

Nestled within 500 acres of woodland in Battle, The Beech Estate Campsite, run by Pegs & Pitches, was named runner-up for Best Family Campsite in South East England.

Accommodation ranges from eight wild glamping bell tents and 22 tent pitches, categorised as forest, valley, hammock and other themed pitches, all allowing open campfires.

The campsite is open from April until October.

Fairfields Farm Caravan & Camping Park, East Sussex

Fairfields Farm Caravan & Camping Park, set on a working 200-acre farm on the Pevensey Levels in East Sussex, was named runner-up status for Best Adult-Only Site in South East England.

Open from spring to autumn, this adult-only park offers level grass pitches for tents, caravans and campervans, with facilities including flush toilets, showers, laundry, drinking-water taps and a well-stocked shop.

The site also features a farm trail with animals and walks across the marshland for a scenic and quiet getaway.

    Woodfire at Westerlands, West Sussex

Woodfire at Westerlands, perched on the Westerlands Estate in the South Downs near Petworth, was awarded Winner of Most Unique Site in the UK.

The site is off-grid and gastronomically focused, offering non-electric grass pitches, small camper-van spots and pre-pitched canvas tents.

Each stay comes with access to hot outdoor showers, fire pits and meals cooked over an open wood fire.

But if you fancy visiting in the winter, Woodfire runs a regular “Winter Feast” series, with ticketed fire-cooked, multi-course dinners under candlelight.
