George Mervin Evans, known locally as Merv, lives in the Buckley area.
The 80-year-old has recently been put in an unimaginable position this winter, having been left with just parts of a roof to cover his home.
Ten weeks ago, he paid £6,000 for the work to be carried out on his house – but this was only half done.
Michelle Devin, who is a neighbour of Mr Evans, set up the fundraiser – which can be donated to here – to help pay for the work to be finished.
That has so far raised £945 (correct at time of writing) as residents pull together to help Mr Evans stay warm this winter.
And, today (November 27), their campaign has paid off as Buckley Roofing have stepped in to complete the work.
Michelle said the fundraiser is now being used to ‘give something back’ to the tradesmen who have decided to offer their services to the cause.

She said: “Merv’s electrics and heating have also been sorted and local building merchandise has been donated.
“A big thanks has to go to Buckley Roofing for fixing the roof, as well as Matty and Gary Davies from Regency of Buckley for the plumbing and heating and North West Roofing Supplies for materials and Scarfos skip hire for supplying the skip.”

Michelle added: “This (picture above) is what an 80-year-old pensioner has been left with in the dead of winter. He has been sat with no heating and half a roof.
“He paid a so-called roofer the full amount to re-roof his bungalow. A job he was told would take three days to complete and that was 10 weeks ago.”
Another neighbour involved in helping to address the issue, Jenny Middleton, said: “During these weeks, Steve Jones has attended to his (Mr Evans’) property numerous times to help due to different issues, like rain water coming through the roof.
“All these issues have been caused by the roofer, with no care whatsoever on the impact this is having not just emotionally, but mentally and physically on a pensioner.
“Merv is the nicest, kindest, funniest chap you will meet and we all wanted to help him.”
The work that was being carried out is in the process of being reported to Flintshire Trading Standards.
