Paul With, who worked as a handyman in Benfleet for eight years, was known for his larger than life “big friendly giant” personality.

He was 59 when he passed away on November 12 while visiting Italy with friends to lay poppies for Remembrance – a yearly tradition.

He leaves behind his wife Emma With and two children, Kirsty and Lewis, who gathered this week to open presents Paul had ordered them for Christmas which arrived after he passed away.

Emma said: “Paul was a man who left a mark on everyone he met – a true big friendly giant whose presence filled every room with warmth, humour, and care. He was a fun, sociable and hardworking family man who always put others first, and his impact on our lives will never fade.

“Even after his passing, Paul’s generosity continues to shine. This week, parcels he had ordered for us all as Christmas presents arrived at our doors.

“Instead of joining him at Winter Wonderland – his favourite day of the year – we gathered together and opened the parcels, trying to work out who each gift was meant for.

“It was a bittersweet moment but also a reminder of how deeply Paul thought of everyone and how much joy he wanted to bring us.”

A keen golfer and harbouring a deep passion for “banger racing”, Paul’s family said he was a “grafter” who proudly raced with the number 263 and treasured the conversations he would have while working.

“Paul was more than a son, dad, partnerand friend. He was a man who worked hard, loved fiercely and gave selflessly,” Emma added.

“His legacy is not only in the stories we tell of racing, golf, laughter, and family gatherings – but in the way he taught us to live with kindness, generosity and a smile that made the world feel lighter.

“We will miss him dearly, but we will carry his spirit forward in every gathering, every laugh, and every act of care. Paul truly was one of a kind.”
