Influential midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has been ruled out of their Europa League clash with Malmo on Thursday.
The game comes less than 72 hours before Sean Dyche’s men take on the Seagulls in the Premier League on Sunday
Gibbs-White did not take part in open training on the day before the Malmo match.
Dyche was not specific about the problem and said he was still waiting for detailed news.
He told his UEFA press conference: “Just settling an issue with him. He’s going to miss this one. Hopefully it will settle down quickly but we’re waiting for news.”
Forest caused Albion various types of heartbreak in league and cup last season and Gibbs-White is central to their plans.
He operates primarily as an attacking midfielder but, under the recently-arrived Dyche, has become a playmaker hub, linking midfield and attack while also contributing defensively.
His ability to take the ball under pressure, carry it and pick progressive passes makes him Forest’s main creative outlet.
Striker Chris Wood (knee), midfielder Douglas Luiz (hamstring), winger Dilane Bakwa (unspecified) and full-back Oleksandr Zinchenko (groin) were not involved in the matchday-minus-one session.
Forward Taiwo Awoniyi did some running with staff members but did not take part with team-mates.
Ola Aina (hamstring) is currently out of action.
All focus by the Trent is currently on a Thursday night fixture which brings back memories of the 1979 European Cup final in which Trevor Francis’s header sank Malmo.
