The Warm Fund, introduced by the Cadent Foundation, aims to help around 10,000 households over the course of the year who are struggling to heat their homes amid persistently high energy costs.

Delivered through a network of charity partners, including Citizens Advice, Groundwork and Act on Energy, the scheme is designed to provide practical, immediate relief to those most affected by fuel poverty.

Recent research conducted by the foundation highlights the depth of the crisis. Almost half of respondents said they feel genuine anxiety about their energy bills, while more than a third reported that rising costs are negatively affecting every aspect of their daily lives.

For those in vulnerable circumstances, the situation is even more severe: 78 per cent believe keeping warm has become a luxury for some families, and 73 per cent fear their homes could go cold this winter because heating is no longer affordable.

The Warm Fund offers tailored support packages range from energy efficiency bundles, including LED bulbs, draught excluders and smart plugs, to winter warmer kits with blankets and heated items. In some cases, households may also receive vouchers, dehumidifiers or larger appliances such as washing machines, fridge-freezers or microwaves through select partners.

People looking to apply should go through one of the partners listed on Our Warm Fund – Cadent Gas LtdCadent’s website.

Eligibility is based on clear criteria. Applicants must have an annual household income below £31,000 and be receiving certain benefits:

    • Pension Credit
    • Universal Credit
    • Income Based Jobseekers Allowance
    • Income Related Employment & Support Allowance
    • Income Support
    • Housing Benefit
    • Tax Credits (Child & Working Tax Credit)

The scheme is specifically targeted at people living in low-income households with energy-inefficient properties.

On average, households can expect to receive around £100 worth of support, although this will vary depending on individual needs and assessments carried out by partner charities. As energy affordability continues to dominate household concerns, initiatives like this underline the growing role of targeted, practical support in helping families stay warm, safe and resilient year-round.
